The core problem in the dodging vs. tanking issue is that no matter what you do, dodging is limited. There are many ways to increase the amount of tanking someone can do, but not much to modify dodging, nor much of the same types of things. No ifs, ands, buts, or maybes; no matter what you do, you can't dodge more then 30 times in a 150 PC fight. Thustly, any proposal to reduce the disparity should focus on this problem. To do this, I propose the following change. For the most part, this modification does not change the way we do dodging now. This proposal is made using the current dodging setup, but can be applied to any further modifications (such as X/Y dodge).
To put it simply, this proposal makes the PC pool replenishable using spells, items, or abilities. To make this work, the PC pool would be split into 2 components: The dodging pool and the weapon pool. The dodging pool would handle all dodging, while the weapon pool acts like it normally does. The ratio of the 2 pools can be determined at a later time, as it is not important to the proposal itself; only that the pools will be seperate. The players can restore the dodging pool using spells and items to be determined later, and can possibly increase the pool using items and abilities. This pool may be part of the pilot class and can be increased using UPs, or it may be part of the unit's abilities, or it may simply be determined by the fight's PC limit. Any of these possibilities is reasonable, but can be determined later. For now, the validy of the scheme is what's in question.
Since the dodging pool is replenishable, it should not be considered for PC losses after battle. The weapon pool, however, can be. Also, the average size of both pools should be smaller then they are now. Pools of 150 each might be a bit much, especially since all 150 can be sunk into weapons with no fear of it affecting how well you dodge. Because of this, changes to the prizes and payment of fights will also need to be determined.
I, personally, believe that a scheme such as this is the best thing we can do to bring dodging and tanking together. What do the rest of you think?
