History: Who Berrik is and where he came from are complete enigmas. All that is known is that a few years ago, he showed up and started re-uniting the scattered parts of the former Big Fire, over a period of five years. The EoJ have no good excuse for allowing this to happen; it is our own fault for being complacent after Big Fire was destroyed the first time, and so we did not take what we thought was an insane fool seriously until it was too late.
Berrik ruthlessly consolidated his power base; splinters of Big Fire that refused to rejoin the whole were wiped out. At first, going was slow... but then, the reconstituted Big Fire pulled off the operation that transformed them from an ordinary criminal group to the Solar System's most wanted group of men: the theft of the SDF-04.
Examination of records after the incident showed that Big Fire agents had extensively infiltrated the building crew, posing as managers, technicians, and laborers. A week after the main fold drive and power core were installed, Big Fire drew attention and forces away from the dock with a number of cleverly timed diversions... then they quite literally flew the ship right out of the dock, fooling the local forces into believing that it was an authorized flight and that they were headed to help against the attacking Big Fire troops. The ruse held right up until the ship powered up it's fold engines and vanished.
The UNT Spacy immediately launched a system-wide hunt for the ship; however, their search was in vain. Big Fire had landed the ship in a secret dock on Mars, and proceeded to complete it using technology from a wide variety of sources; not having access to UNT Spacy technology. Their efforts were completley and utterly successful; it is estimated that the ship's overall firepower and toughness is 25% greater than any other of it's class; it even edges out the New Macross series slightly.
After this theft, Big Fire's membership exploded; with a base that no one could get to, there was no easy way to stomp them out. Their stolen Superdimensional Fortress could fold into Earth orbit or a colony cluster, release a few ships, and fold out again before any forces could successfully intercept.'
Big Fire is suspected to have ties (and draw funding from) most of the organized crime in the world; even more ominously, it appears they are now being supplied by a number of paramilitary and quasi-government groups.
Big Fire is suspected of having ties to the following groups:
-Romafeller Foundation (and indirectly, through them, OZ)
-Brotherhood of Nod
-SIGMA
-Mafia
-Yakuza
-Majestic-12
-Illuminati
-Nishima Heavy Metal Industries
-Macrosoft, Inc
-Neo Zeon
-ZAFT
-OZ Prize
-The Syndicate
...and other, smaller organizations, too many to count.
Most of Big Fire's muscle is provided by Syndicate Strikers, along with Brotherhood troops, Yakuza thugs, and Mafia enforcers. There is a considerable trade of technology and training between the four organizations; it is not uncommon to see a Brotherhood trooper using a katana or a Mafia enforcer using Striker-style martial arts.
Strangely enough, most of Big Fire's mecha pilots are drawn from the ranks of the Syndicate strikers, with almost none from the other three by comparison.
Though Big Fire makes a lot of money from it's lower echelon satellite organizations, it's real sources of funding are suspected to be Neo Zeon, ZAFT and OZ; the two former organizations would like nothing better than an Earth controlled by an organization with little to no interest in their business, while the latter wants to see the colonies removed as a threat and thinks the best way to do it is to destroy the Earth Federation.
