As part of my series to make ships more popular, I bring forth my second proposal. I propose that units with custom modules be allowed to change packs while in battle by docking with a mothership. This would mean that a unit could dock with a ship, and sacrifice their currently equipped pack for the rest of the battle to change to another pack. Basically, it's like Frame Switch or CAS Change. This proposal makes sense because it's more then possible that units could have their equipment removed and replaced when docked in battle for repairs. Strike does this at times, as does other units with many packs.

I think it's a good idea, just one thing to think about: is there going to be a problem with suits that have lots and lots of different packs? I don't mean the base packs so much as R&D additions - Strike, for example, has 4 or 5 base pack forms, RAID Strike, might've had Boxer, and I expect a couple more eventually.

I would imagine they would not regenerate HP from the pack switch alone (in other words, calculate HP/EN in percent and switch), but that does present the issue of ammo-based Striker packs...
... then again, Frame Switch and CAS Change are limited by rank...
... hmm...

This is a good idea, go for it. I don't really see that much of an issue with the number of frames or packs that are available. It wouldn't really make sense to limit the amount of frames available to a unit docking into an Excelion or Helmholtz. Making the amount of frames based on size is too complicated.
As for HP regeneration, they already get healed just by being in the ship, Tavish.

Of course, since I intended this to be an equivalent to CAS and Frame Switch (but does require docking, instead of being able to do it outside of the ship), a limit of the number of frames you can change to should be alright. Sure most units wouldn't be affected, but then there's guys like F90.

Oh yeah about the regen thing, since we are going in a ship, i dont think having a frame switch would give you bac all EN and HP, maybe you still need to sit it out a few turns like ordinary ship docking regen we have now.
