It's funny how we don't use the official names from the artbooks.

I think we should use the official names as long as they're not obvious misspellings. For example, Hiryu Kwai, Hagwane, Shilogwane and Kulogwane are just wrong, because the katakana reads otherwise. The reason why we don't use "Sladegelmir" either is explained in the etymology list that Eis made up. Everything else is canon, I guess.

Characters have literally translated out wrong before. Should we rename everything to Gundamu? I don't think there's any difference between that and this, kata reads one thing but the maker says it's another. And becides, how can you really say that they're misspellings? They've used the same names for both artbooks, so I'm actually pretty sure that they REALLY do mean it.

Hagane (steel), Shirogane (silver), Kai (Modified) and Kurogane (iron) are actual Japanese words, and that's how they're romanized. With Gandamu, "Gundam" works because "Gun" is almost always kana-ized as "Gan" and a final "mu" character almost always means a simple "m" at the end of the word. The romanization, while very different from the kana, does not defy convention.
The misplaced "w"s in the ship names, however are completely unconventional ways of romanizing the kana, which clearly say "Ha-ga-ne" (and not Ha-gu-a-ne), et al.
No need to use all caps, my friend, I see your point.

They also go a little far at times to keep the -lion series going - see Fairlion, Altailion, Hypelion...

Rätsel Feinschmecker apparently means "The Enigmatic Gourmet" XD (It makes sense though, as he's known to be an excellent cook.)

Something interesting cross referenced from the game itself
Codenames Platinum 1 - Shirogane Steel 2 - Hagane Iron 3 - Kurogane Dragon 2 - Hiryu Kai
One would assume Dragon 1 is Hiryu that got the shaft in the OG1 prologue.

Some more trivia on the Boosted Children from SRWG: [possible SPOILER]
Ouka's codename, Aurum 1, means gold. Arado and Seolla are Bronze 27 and 28, respectively.
Since all their codenames had something to do with metal, I looked up the Russian word for "Brass" and discovered that it was Латунь, which is how the artbook spells Latuny's (Her codename is Latuny 11) name. There's a bit of confusion as to what the last character in the Russian spelling is. It's supposed to be unpronounced, but the kana puts a sound after the "n." So in Cyrillic, it might be spelt as "Latun" but pronounced as "Latuny."
Also, her surname is apparently "Subbota," Russian for Saturday. If you might recall OG1, there were two characters named Giada Venerdi and Garnet Sunday. Giada Venerdi is apparently Italian for "Jade Friday" (why they'd name a guy Jade is beyond me), so there's kind of a link between their names there.
Also, there's a bunch of characters named after birds. Strangely, they're all linked with DC. Ibis, Tsugumi (Japanese, thrush), Adler (German, Eagle), Aguila (Spanish, also Eagle), Cuervo (Spanish, Crow). And of course, the sinister Egret.

Dragon 1 = the original Hiryu
That ship was used by Daitetsu and Shawn during the intro OG 1 as well as during the first invasion of 'Bugs'. Too bad we weren't able to use or see it. >_>

a bit more random Boosted Children info~
The Boosted Children are all named by Aguila in the following style: [Class Name][Student #]. Thus Ouka being student #1 of the Aurum class, is called Aurum 1. Cuervo was, if I didn't remember incorrectly, the one who gave the individual children different names (why he missed Latuny is beyond me~)
There're other classes besides Aurum, Bronze, and Latuny too. In OG2, the Argent (silver) and Yellow (yeah, yellow) classes were mentioned briefly when Latuny (or was it Arad?) was trying to convince Zeola to leave Aguila~
