If ACE didn't do it, if MX didn't do it, this does it. Banpresto owns my SOUL.

I almost soiled my pants when I saw these in SRWG. Everything just looks so awesome, even the hateful Ideon. And I'm really looking forward to the OP and ED themes JAM Project is going to make for this. But as far as Virtual On is concerned, I now have no doubt Banpresto can put in ANY Japanese mecha series, whether game, manga or anime.

Don't be hatin'. It makes baby Jesus cry.
Actually, I think it's going to be neat to see them explain Macross Max and Mylene in the same timeline.

They'd better throw in the Geshpenst(s) units in that game! Heh. At least the mk-III, from SRW:OG2. But holy smokes, Gundam SEED and Virtua-On? This game is gonna rock0rz teh sock0rz. I'm really hoping they would throw in vocal music for the mecha theme(s), rather than using instrumental versions. ;

Well, considering that the Huckebein MkIII was in Alpha and Alpha 2, there's a strong possibility that it'd still be in here.

I just hope we can get some sprites from it. The SEED sprites look phenomenal, and I for one would love a Buster or Blitz sprite. Maybe a Duel too, but the one Aslan made for me is still prety darn cool.
And if they're doing SEED, I really hope they stick Lowe in there. Either as a secret character or even a normal one. Red Astray just screams to tear up the game with awesomeness.

The reason why Gunbuster is back can be found in this interview translation. Apparently, Alpha 3 is the conclusion to the Alpha series, tying up all the loose ends left over from the previous games. Balmar (the Empire which the Aerogaters were part of) will be back, in FULL FORCE this time. I guess they were biding their time and waiting for the humans to clean up all the stray threats such as Shuu, the Ancestors, and GanEden. Zuphiroude and Astranagun may be given a run for their money.

The article rhapsodizes about the combat animations and recaps the existing three SRW Alpha games. It also contains Q&A session with TERADA Masanobu, the man at the helm of SRW:
His first work on the series was as producer of the Gameboy "Super Robot Wars G 2". Thereafter he became the leader of SRW. Apart from that, he claims to grab snatches of sleep between bouts of Dragon Quest 8.
- Please tell us a bit about the subtitle to this installment, "To the End of the Galaxy".
= I came up with that name in part to sum up all of the Alpha series since its inception in 2000. In fact, Alpha was planned to be in three parts from the outset, though one more episode crept in and made it a four-parter. ^_^ In any event, this grand structure was there all along. Meaning that the reason we did stuff like not finishing Aim for the Top back in Alpha 1 was so that we could save it till now. It fact, almost all the story material around Earth in SRW has wrapped up by now - and seeing as how we've got Aim for the Top and Macross 7 on board, the stage is going to shift to the galaxy. And I must apologize, but I planned to hold off on Ideon until Alpha 3. Given what it's about, you simply can't bring it out except at Alpha's conclusion. And on that note, some may be wondering how on Earth we can wrap up all the territory we've covered in Alpha. With all these large-scale series, it's fair to say that some are easier to tie up than others. ^_^
- Looks like it took you until episode three to include Seed. I was wondering just how loud the fans clamoring for it got.
= Um, yeah. We got a lot of requests for Seed from the users starting around the time of Alpha 2[1]. It is popular and all. I had been planning to only do Gaogaigar up through the TV story, but since the scale had gotten so big I realized the users wouldn't be satisfied unless we did the OVAs as well, so we put "Final" in as well. I should point out that Alpha 3 was all set in stone all the way back in the Alpha 2 timeframe, and that includes the decision to include Macross 7.
- I was a bit surprised to see Cyber Fighter Virtual-On included.
= Well, we have cases like Armored Weapon G Breaker[2] appearing in the Dreamcast version of Alpha, so we've got precedent here. I was thinking of using that precedent to broaden our horizons when I had the chance to chat with Watari-san[3], who said "Go for it". And so we get to see Virtual-On on the roster. Watari-san helped us a lot with our Virtual-On scripts.
- What was difficult about pulling off another company's characters?
= Figuring out how to not mess up the image of the original work while still using it to season SRW. Also, it took a lot of careful work to make 2D versions of the originally 3D Virtualoids, and then to super-deform them.
- With all the different titles included in this game, I'm wondering if we'll see the Squad system again.
= Partly becasue this is the successor to Alpha 2, we'll be including the squad system. But we've optimized it some more for this game, so look forward to it.
- I see. I guess we can expect a lot of friends and foes then?
= There's a lot of enemy like the Baf Clan and the space monsters who are supposed to come in overwhelming numbers, and the squad system is probably the best way to recreate those battles. And of course, we've prepared hooks for Ideon and Macross 7. I'm hoping you'll be living in fear of fighting with the Ideon gauge[5] hanging over your head. ^_^
- What's the concept behind the new, more extravagent combat animations?
= Subtle movements and attention to effects. That, and the fact that much of the flavor won't be apparent until the second time around - stuff you won't get the first time. We've put stuff in that we think will make you go "wow, look at that attention to detail" the second time around. We did stuff like, with the Valkyrie, depending on whether or not it finishes its enemy off, the animation changes a bit. Just when you think you've seen an animation before, there'll be some surprise waiting at the end. So be sure to watch all the way through every time. ^_^
- The cut scenes seem to have gotten more involved too.
= We took a cue from MX[4] and did all sorts of stuff. When it came to the storyboarding for Dankuuga, we actually got some assistance from one of our users, Mr. Ouharu Masaki (animation director for the original). Stuff like that gave us a lot to work with.
- What about the Banpresto original characters?
= They'll be there. Remember that major enemy organization from way back in Alpha 1, the Balmar? They'll be back in full force for this episode. I think you'll see why the Balmar didn't intervene in Alpha 2, as well as what a bunch of the characters only mentioned by name have been up to. And again, this game will have an original main character... though what _kind_ of character is still secret. ^_^
- I'm sure the fans playing the series still have a lot of questions from the previous episodes.
= Stuff like what became of the Exelion, or what the Macross is up to after heading off to space in Gaiden[6]. I'm hoping we can answer questions like that. The plan is to wrap up everything we've done since 2000 in one fell swoop. The Alpha series has been be a major turning point for SRW, and I'm hoping to make this a worthy finale. I'm grateful to everyone who's taken this journey with me.
[1] SRW Alpha 2, available for the PS2 in March 2003. [2] A series born of Sunrise's character-driven RPG "Sunrise Heroic Legend". It was also animated. [3] WATARI Juurou, member of Sega's Third AM Development Section. Producer of the Cyber Trooper Virtual-On series. [4] SRW MX, available for the PS2 in May 2004. Known for a forgiving scenario that even light users can enjoy. [5] In SRW F Final, the Ideon's gauge would rise every time an enemy hit it. If it hit a certain level, the Ideon would go berserk, indiscriminately attacking everything in sight. For this reason, it became legendary as a psychopathic red giant. Since the settings for phenomenal graphics are in place, I wonder how the gameplay and difficulty will be? I hope the gameplay will be as good as how Banpresto's spokesman boasts the graphics will be.
Hey wait a minute, how did the Excelion survive? Didn't Tashiro blow it up in Alpha before the gang faced Laodicea's Zuphiroude?

I bet PS2 emulation will be in a monstly working state by the time A3 rolls around, Blaine, so sprite ripping'll be a cinch.
Though it's kinda funny, but the Strike in that scan does look quite a bit like Aslan's edit.
