Supposedly the ultimate war machine, each of the original battle tanks, Metal Gear "Shogohod", Metal Gear TX-55, Metal Gear Rex and Metal Gear Ray, have been destroyed each in succession by an unknown assailant. Said to have been a member of the legendary Foxhound unit, this assailant, and his predecessor, have destroyed many Metal Gears worldwide, and eventually succeeded in wiping out the threat of another world war. Now that war has begun again in the 22rd century, the need for high standard war machines has risen again. The old blueprints for these battle tanks have been brought together in an unknown location, and used in conjunction with the creators of the Masoukishin mechs to create the fifth in the line of these terrifying war machines - Metal Gear Ryu.
Metal Gear Ryu is the much more advanced model, because it contains not only high technology, but the power supply is Prana rather than the standard tank fuel, an elemental power that is resonant to it's designated pilot's. And as such, it regenerates armour from the Earth as it fights. But it's armour is also infused with the earth, therefore, it takes less damage regardless. It's creators were worshippers of the Earthen Dragon, Tsuchiryu, and as such it has been designed in a sort of tribute to him, too.
The Metal Gear is armed with a rock rifle on the back of it's left arm. Each and every shot is capable of stopping their target from moving temporarily, thanks to the power of Prana rather than standard fuels.. For close combat, it is armed with extremely sharp claws that can pierce even the toughest armour. It also has a blade made from earthen energy, said to have been carved from one of Tsuchiryu's bones, allowing it to break through most standard barriers and cause more damage.
One of it's more powerful abilities is manipulation of the earth itself. When it punches the ground, an earthquake shakes the ground at immesurable magnitudes, damaging the enemy mechs multiple times. It can also release a sandstorm from it's right hand, like the God, Tsuchiryu's breath.
Metal Gear Ryu's final two attack options are the most devastating in it's arsenal. Like all other Metal Gears before it, it comes equipped with a nuclear missile firing capability. However, the missiles on Metal Gear Ryu are much smaller, and it comes equipped with three rather than one. They still cause devastating damage to any it hits, however. The second attack is an equally devastating attack, dubbed Ragnarok. A particle beam cannon that has been built into it's chest, it will destroy anything if it hits, and the amount of energy emitted from it causes entire mountains to rise from the ground around it.
All of Metal Gear Ryu's attacks make it a fearsome opponent in battle, but what is even more fierce is the pilot. All that is known is that he is a mercenary who fights for anyone who pays high enough, and he is said to be the best at what he does. This mysterious pilot, coupled with the sheer power of Metal Gear Ryu, are supposedly the perfect match, and it would not do well to go against them.
