This thread is devoted to guiding you, the SC pilot, in intricate, delicate job of installing upgrade chips onto your units. Basically, here's the different types of chips and the do's and don'ts of chip installation.
I'll be covering several topics on Chip Type/Class and Chip Installation:
1.) Brief History 2.) Chip Type/Class 3.) Installation Limitations

The first chips that came out in the Simulation Chamber were the Daba Chips. Only a few of the current members have these chips which were given out by the one who founded the Simulation Chamber: Daba Mylord. These chips augmented both the stats and the weapon damage of the units to which these chips were installed.
Chips were originally items. That meant that they occupied item slots. The Daba Chip was not considered an item by Daba's decree and it came as a bonus and something that added value to every mech to which it was installed. The old chips namely: Banana Chips, Apple Chips and even Fish and Chips were like A-Up Units but with bigger perks.
But then there was a change in government and Daba passed the SC to yours truly and Aslan Cross. And so, we came up with our own chips namely: Ice Chip and Silmaril Chip. These were no longer items and acted the same way like the Daba Chips when they were installed onto units. Their effects also applied before any other items took effect.
The Daba, Ice and Silmaril Chips are no longer in circulation but there are still members who own them. Nevertheless, newer, more specialized but less powerful chips have been developed and are already in circulation and are expected to be seen popping up in promos and such, more often.
The Higher Chips are the Daba, Ice and Silmaril Chips.
The Lesser Chips are those that will be released soon. Their classifications of Low, Mid and High Tier would determine the rarity of their appearance as well as the amount each chip could be stacked per unit as well as other restrictions that follow, unlike the Higher Chips that had no limitations.

As mentioned in the Brief History account, the chips different classes and types.
Higher Chips: These are chips that have no restrictions in their installation. [/li][li] Daba Chip [/li][li] Ice Chip [/li][li] Silmaril Chip
The Daba Chips had only been released twice in two forms differentiated by previous one's IS bonus. The Ice Chip was released during a Christmas Promo and re-released when the Silmaril Chip was released. The Ice Chip only applied bonuses to stats and weapon damage. The Silmaril Chip was only released once and only applied to stats and item slots.
Lesser Chips: These chips are the current chips being circulated in the Simulation Chamber. They are due for release soon. Unlike the Higher Chips, these chips have respective restrictions to even out their bonuses. They also have limits on the number of times the same chip could be installed onto a unit as well as whether a certain chip could be installed onto a unit that already had another certain chip. Their class determines the rarity of the chip's appearance in promos and events.

Inheritance
A chip installed onto a lesser unit that combines with other units to form a combined unit (i.e. R-series combines to form SRX) causes the bonuses of the chip installed on the lesser unit to be inherited by the combined unit.
ex.
If R-1 has Daba Chip on it. SRX gains the bonuses of the Daba Chip.
Thus, chips cannot be installed onto combined units alone. It has to be installed onto a lesser unit for it to apply to the combined unit. This safeguards the request to float a chip when the owner decides to sell one of the lesser units causing the combined unit to be non-existent.
Also, chips installed on lesser units that transform into greater units (like Yuushas) follow the same principle of inheritance. The chip is installed in the lesser unit and is then inherited by the greater unit upon transformation.
Nevertheless, make sure that the combined unit or the transformed unit follows the restrictions of the chip installed on the lesser unit as well or else the installation will not be allowed.
Installation Locks
Certain chips have restrictions and requirements that need to be met before a chip can be applied on the desired unit. And there are units that evolve into units that break the restrictions/requirements of certain chips. Therefore, if a chip is installed onto a unit that evolves into a unit that breaks the said requirements/restrictions, the unit can no longer evolve.
Hardwired Chips
This simply dictates that once a chip is installed onto a unit, it can no longer be removed. If said unit is to be sold, the chip goes along with it. So choose your units wisely. They're going to stay there for good!

Frequently Asked Questions:[/u]
[/li][li] What if I installed one Module Enhancement Chip on R-1 then another one on R-2? Does that mean that when they combine, SRX gains an additional IS due to inheritance?
Answer: The inheritance effect for the Module Enhancement Chip applies as one. So that means that even if the entire R-series or all the lesser units of a greater unit for that matter have the Module Enhancement Chip, the greater unit only gets one additional IS.
[/li][li] What if unit modifications remove certain inherents from a unit that would cause to be inelligible for the chip that was currently installed on it? What would happen to the chip?
Answer: Notify High Command when that happens. Remember, WE MUST BE NOTIFIED SO THAT WE CAN PERSONALLY PERMIT THE TRANSFER.
